Fried Selar Fish with Hot & Spicy Sambal


Craving for some hot & spicy sambal recipe? Sambal is a Malay word, refers to chilli paste blended with other ingredients.

While Selar fish is a relatively cheap and very common/ordinary fish that you can easily find in any wet market or supermarket.

Try this easy Fried Selar Fish with Hot & Spicy Sambal recipe.

Ingredients : (serves 2)

2 pcs Selar Fish

6 pcs Shallots

2 cloves Garlic

10 pcs Dried Red Chillies (soaked for about 10 mins to soften it. No need remove seed.)

7 tbsp Cooking Oil

1/2 tsp Tumeric Powder

1 pc Asam Keping (soaked for 5-10 mins to soften it)

1/2 tsp Salt

2 tsp Sugar

3-4 tbsp Water

Step by Step:

1. Clean fish & seasoned with some salt and tumeric powder on both sides of fish.

2. Use blender to blend dried red chillies, shallots & garlic till fine paste. Add 3-4 tbsp of water to blend easily.

3. Heat some oil in pan, then pan fry fish on for about 2 mins on each sides with pan covered.

4. Pan fry till golden brown on each sides.

5. Remove & set aside.

6. In another pan using low heat, heat up oil & saute the chilli paste till oil separates & water content evaporated. The color should turns dark red and it will be ready. Keep stirring continuously for about 5-8mins on really low heat.

7. Add in asam keping and seasoned with sugar & salt.

8. Remove & put sambal on top of fried fish.

9. Ready to serve. Finished off with a squeeze of lime juice on it.

10. Best to eat with a bowl of steam white rice.​

* Usually other type of fishes like Kuning, Kembong, Cencaru etc.. would be ideal for this recipe as well.
