Thai Basil Chilli Beancurd (Tofu)

Love this dish so much. Taste exactly like the Thai basil minced meat dish, just that this one uses tofu, which is way more healthy version. Easy to prepare and cook, few basic ingredients needed.

I am using square tofu. Not really firmed tofu type. It's still soft but not silky smooth type like those tube tofu or box tofu. You can use any tofu of your choice, as long as it doesn't breaks easily. If you prefer firmed tofu (tou kwa), you can use that too.

Ingredients: (serves 2)

300g Tofu

Handful of Thai Basil

2 pcs Baby Corn - cut

1/2 long Red Chilli - chopped

1/4 tsp Ginger Powder

1 clove Garlic -minced

Pinch of Salt

1 tbsp Cooking Oil

1 tsp Cornstarch + abit water (slurry)

Sauce (mix together):

1 tbsp Light Soy Sauce

1 tbsp Oyster Sauce

1 tsp Dark Soy Sauce

1/4 tsp Garlic Powder (optional)

1 tsp Sugar

75ml Water

Step by Step:

1. Cut tofu into cubes.

2. Pan fry tofu till brown on all sides on medium heat. Remove & set aside.

3. Add oil into pan, saute garlic till almost golden. Add chopped chilli and baby corn. Toss for about 30 seconds.

4. Add in tofu and sauce mixture. Let it simmer for about 2 mins to let the sauce flavor absorb into the tofu. Toss gently, becareful not to break/cut the tofu.

5. Slowly stir in cornstarch slurry to thicken the sauce. (You may not need to add all, up to your personal preferences on how thick you'd like your sauce to be)

6. Lastly, add in basil leaves. give a few toss and dish up immediately.

7. Best serve hot with steamed rice.

Happy Cooking.
