Double Boiled Dang Gui Egg Sweet Soup

Have you tried this tong sui before?


Dang gui egg sweet soup (Tongsui). No need to add chicken meat and yet it still taste as great. Just like any other tong sui, it's sweet. Not the savoury soup type. Best to consume while it's warm, so so so good. I'm loving it so much!


This sweet soup is of a warming and nourishing nature. Super easy to prepare, just dump everything into the double boiler.

The taste, super fragrant dang gui aroma, blended so well into the sweet soup. And the egg so nice to eat, infused all the flavour from the soup. Note that the dried longan, Wolfberries and nan dates gives a natural sweetness, hence don't add too much sugar.

Angelica Root or better known as Dang Gui help tonifies the blood, improves blood flow, improve kidney & liver function, and help balance women’s hormone levels. Good for those with deficient blood and qi, pale and dizziness especially after monthly menstruation or giving birth.


Dang gui is only meant to be consumed for three to four consecutive days after your period ends. After your period has ended, you may consume 1 to 2 times of this herbal soup over few days. If you feel digestive discomforts, or excessive heat from the soup, then reduce or stop the remedy.

On a side note, as dang gui promotes blood circulation, it may lead to more blood loss if used during that period of bleeding.

It’s important to note that you should not consume this soup remedy during menstruation or any serious bleeding, as well as during cold, flu or fever. Consult a TCM practitioner if you want to consume this soup during pregnancy.

After drinking this herbal tonic, you should avoid taking cold drinks, Chinese tea and white radish for the next 24 hours. This will void the effect of the dang gui.


Ingredients : (serves 1)

2 slices Dang Gui

1 Hard boiled egg - de shelled

4 pcs Nan Dates (南枣)

6 pcs Dried Longan

1 tsp Wolfberries

3-4 pcs of Rock Sugar or to taste

250ml Hot Water

Method :

  1. Quick rinse all herbs.

  2. Place water, dang gui, hard boiled egg, nan dates, dried longan into the ceramic pot.

  3. Double boiled for 2 hours.

  4. Add in rock sugar and goji berries during the last 45 mins.

  5. Best served warm. Drink the soup and eat the egg, wolfberries and longans.


(Note : After it's done cooking for 2 hours, I switched off the heat and left the ceramic pot in double boiler for another 2 hours. Hence the darker soup color. Otherwise you will get a lighter soup color if you consume immediately after boiling)
