Simple dish but good enough to eat with plain steamed rice.
Ingredients : (serves 2)
1 pc Square Tofu
1 pc Onion (medium)
1 clove Garlic
7-8pcs Dried Red Chillies (soaked & deseed)
1 tbsp Water
2 tbsp Cooking Oil
2 tbsp Sugar
1 tsp Light Soy Sauce
1 tsp Fish Sauce
Pinch of Salt
Step by Step :
1. Half of the onion for blending chilli paste, half cut into slices for adding into tofu later on.
2. Blend half onion, soaked chillies, garlic with 1 tbsp water till smooth paste.
3. Cut tofu into smaller squares.
4. Heat up wok with tbsp oil. Pan fry tofu till golden on all sides. Remove & set aside.
5. Using the same wok, lightly saute the slice onion for about 1 mins. Set aside.
6. Using low heat, add in balance oil 1 tbsp oil. Pour in blended chilli paste and saute till fragrant & oil separates & thickens. I prefer to cook on low heat to prevent it splatting all over the place.
7. Add in sugar, salt, light soy sauce and fish sauce. Stir to combine.
8. Put in the pan fried tofu & sauteed onion & mix evenly till well coated with sambal.
9. Toss for about 2 minutes.
10. Dish up & serve.
