Meatballs in Sweet and Sour Sauce (Ko Lou Yuk)


Using minced meat for meatballs is a healthier options compared to the common recipes which uses pork belly.

Ingredients : (serves 2)

100g Minced pork

1/2 pc Tomato

1/2 pc Red Onion

1/2 portion Pineapple

1/2 Beaten Egg (egg wash)

Corn starch for deep frying

Oil for frying

Sauce : (** mix together)

1 tbsp Cooking Oil

** 2 tbsp Tomato Sauce

** 1 tsp Light Soy Sauce

** 1 tsp Sugar

** Pinch of Salt

** 7 tbsp Water

Corn starch mixture - 1/2 tbsp Mix with 1 1/2 tbsp water

Pork marinade:

1/2 tsp Corn Starch

1/2 tsp Light soy sauce

1/2 tsp Sugar

Pinch of Salt

Dash of White Pepper

Step by Step :

1. Marinade minced pork with above seasoning for about 30 minutes.

2. Roll them into small balls. No need to be perfect round shape.

3. Heat up oil in wok. Meanwhile waiting for the oil to heat up, roll the meatballs into egg wash and then coat the meatballs with corn starch. (I omitted egg wash this time)

4. Fry meatballs till golden brown. Remove and set aside.

5. To cook the sauce, heat up pan with some oil. Saute onions, pineapple & tomato for about 1 minute.

6. Pour in **tomato sauce mixture & bring to boil.

7. Slowly stir in corn starch mixture until sauce thickens to your desired consistency.

8. Put back meatballs & give a quick stir till all meatballs are well coated with sauce.

9. Quickly dish up & serve immediately. Best eaten with steam rice.
