Bak Steak (Mince Meat Steak Patties with Sauce)

Bak Steak means Meat Patties in Hokkien. Small pieces of minced meat patties shaped to resemble steak, mini size steak cooked in our favourite sauce. My hubby loves this dish so much that he even clean up the last drop of the sauce.. :D

Edamame peas can be replace with frozen green peas.

Ingredients : (serves 2)

300 gm minced meat with some fats

1 pc Potato - sliced to roughly 5mm-7mm thickness

1 pc Onion (small) - thinly sliced

2 tbsp of Edamame Peas (removed from pod)

Oil for frying

1 tbsp Oil

Marinade for Meat

Pinch of Salt

1/4 tsp Sugar

Dash of White Pepper

1/2 tsp Light Soy Sauce 1/4 tsp Sesame oil

1/2 tsp Cornflour

1 clove Garlic - finely minced

Sauce - Mix together all ingredients except the cornflour

1 tbsp Tomato Sauce

1 1/2 tbsp Oyster Sauce

1 tsp Sugar

1/2 tsp Light Soy Sauce

Dash of White Pepper

200 ml water

1 tbsp Cornflour + 2 tbsp water = Starch

Step by Step:

1. Marinate minced meat with marinade and set aside for at least 1 hour.

2. Heat enough oil to fry bak steak. You can also use lesser oil to pan fry. Shape the minced meat into small round balls, flatten slightly. Fry till golden brown. Drain excess oil & set aside.

3. Now, using the same oil, fry the sliced potatoes till soft & slight golden brown on the edges. Drain excess oil & set aside.

4. Discard excess frying oil from wok and leave about 1 tbsp oil. Saute onions for a minute till fragrant. Add in edamame beans.

5. Add in sauce mixture together with fried bak steak & potatoes. Bring to a boil and let it simmer for about 3 mins for the meat & potatoes to absorb the sauce flavur.

6. Slowly stir in starch mixture until it reach your preferred thickness.

7. Ready to serve. Serve hot.

Happy Cooking..
