Snow Jelly Hasma with Red Dates

A search at Wikipedia explains this ingredient - Hasma (Harsmar, Hashima) is a Chinese and widely Central Asian dessert ingredient made from the dried fatty tissue found near the fallopian tubes of true frogs, typically the Asiatic Grass Frog (Rana chensinensis). Hasma is often mistakenly described as toad or frog fat, since it is sometimes referred to as "toad oil" (Chinese: 蛤蟆油; pinyin: há mǎ yóu).

In cantonese, known as 'shuit kap'. This can be easily purchase at all Chinese medicinal shop.

Why eating this?

Double boiled with rock sugar & red dates, basically this is tasteless, jelly like texture. You won't know you are eating some kind of frog tissue. Snow Jelly helps give a beautiful skin complexion, nourish the lung & kidney. Those who cough frequently, recommend to consume this. Some women do consume this too during their confinement period.

Ingredients: (serves 2)

2 teaspoon Dried Snow Jelly Hasma

6 pcs Red dates, seed removed

2 rice bowl of hot water

Rock Sugar to taste

Step by Step:

1. Soak Snow Jelly Hasma for 3 hrs. It will expand and become soft transparent white jelly.

2. Remove any residues sticking on it, black/brown colour thing. You can use your fingernails or tweezer to remove it.

3. Discard soaking water.

4. In a slow cooker, add in hot water, red dates & cleaned snow jelly hasma. Cook for 3 hrs.

5. Then, add rock sugar to taste.

6. Served warm or chilled.
