Black Sesame Seed Sweet Soup

This rich, nutty, fragrant, and healthy soup or paste is a popular Chinese dessert made with black sesame seeds, sugar, glutinous rice flour and water.


This black sesame soup is not only healthy, but it is tasty and nutritious. Black sesame seed is high in calcium and nourishes hair.


I'm using store-bought black sesame powder which was already roasted before processing into powder form. Alternatively, you can just roast black sesame seeds in a pan over low heat till fragrant. Leave it to cool & store in an airtight container.


Ingredients : (serves 1)

150ml Water

14g Rock Sugar

5 tbsp Black Sesame Powder

1 tsp Glutinous Rice Flour


Step by step :

1. Bring water and rock sugar to a boil until sugar fully dissolved.

2. Stir in black sesame powder and mix till well combine. Boil it for 3 mins.

(above : before blend) as you can see water & sesame separates. It's not that fine/ smooth yet.


3. Use hand blender to blend till smooth paste form.

4. Return to stove and continue cooking, sprinkle glutinous rice flour and quickly stir continuously until mixture starts to thicken.

5. Turn off heat. Ready to serve.
