Chinese Yam is neutral in nature and can be used by people of all ages. It is useful in treating poor appetite, boosts immunity, increases metabolism, lowering blood sugar level and relieves menopause symptoms.
It benefits lung to stop cough. It contains saponins and mucilage, which have a lubricating and moisturizing effect. Hence, it benefits lung qi, enriches lung yin, and treat chronic cough due to lung deficiency and phlegm.
According to traditional Chinese medicine (TCM), snow fungus or some called it white fungus contains much iron, vitamin C, calcium and phosphorus. The fat and gum like protein in it is especially nourishing to the body. It is considered a good supplement to the body. Stew white fungus with rock sugar lubricates the colon and stimulates peristalsis. Thus, it is a mild laxative for constipation patients.

This soup taste very light but it definitely contains all the goodness that you'll need in that bowl.
Ingredients : (serves 3-4) 200g Chinese Yam 1/2pc Snow Fungus (soaked for 15mins) 1tbsp Wolfberries (Goji) 5pcs Red Dates (pitted) 220g Pork Bones 1L Water Salt to taste Water for blanching pork bones.
Cutting Chinese yam:
People who have skin allergies might get an itch when they handle Chinese Yam. Thus it is best to put on gloves when preparing it. Chinese Yam has a high iron content, it oxidises and turns dark when cut. Soak it in water immediately to prevent discolouration.
Step by Step:
1. Blanch pork in a pot of boiling water for 8mins. Rinse off under running tap water.
2. Add wolfberries, red dates, pork bones, Chinese Yam into pot.
3. Bring to a boil. Then reduce heat and simmer for 1.5 hour.
4. Add in soaked snow fungus and continue simmer for another 40 mins.
5. Salt to taste & serve hot.
