Wanted to fried some wantons but I don't have water chestnut in my fridge. Suddenly it popped up in my mind, why not substitute with apples since I've got so much apples sitting in my fridge. Without hesitation, I quickly mix all the ingredients and get ready for some crunchy yummy Fried Wanton with Apples & Minced Meat. You don't really taste the apples bits but you can see it's there. It's just like taste like normal, no weird / funny taste. In fact a healthier options and easily available in your kitchen.
Ingredients : (makes 30pcs)
Wanton Skins - square
110g Minced Pork / Chicken
1 medium Chinese Dried Mushroom
1/2 Apple - preferably crunchy red apples (I used South Africa Honey Apple)
12g Carrot - finely chopped
Seasoning:
3/4 tsp Light Soy Sauce
1/4 tsp Fish Sauce
1/4 tsp Sugar
1/2 tsp Shao Xing Wine
1/4 tsp Sesame Oil
Dash of white pepper
Cooking Oil for frying
Step by Step:
1. Soaked & squeeze dry the mushroom. Then use a scissors to cut into small bits.
2. For apple, dice it into small cubes.
3. Mix all the ingredients together with seasoning. Stir till well combined. Set aside for about 30 mins to marinate.
4. Wrap wantons when you are about to fry it. Scoop a small spoonful of the meat mixture & wrap in.
5. Heat oil in the wok. Dip a bamboo chopsticks into oil and when you see it bubbling around the chopsticks, means oil is ready for frying.
6. Slowly put a few wantons at a time and fry till golden brown.
7. Remove wantons from the wok & let it sit on kitchen towels to soak off excess oil.
8. Ready to serve/ Serve hot with your favourite dippings - chilli sauce, tomato sauce or mayonaise.
Enjoy while it's hot and crunchy.
